Of course, you can substitute some parts where applicable. For example, a solar panel that outputs no more than 5-6V DC could be used. The RAK device specified here also has the appropriatly polarized JST connector. Another flat top 18650 cell could be substituted as well, or a protected or flatpack cell with the correct JST connector.
